I’m not proud of it,” Kelce said of his interaction with a fan who called his brother Travis a homophobic slur at the Ohio State-Penn State game. “In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I don’t think that’s a productive thing to do. “I don’t think it leads to speech.”

He continued: “At that point I fell to a level that I shouldn’t have been. The bottom line is that I try to live my life by the golden rules. That’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with decency and respect. “I’m going to continue doing that in the future.”

Since retiring from the league after last season, Kelce has been showing up to support his brother and Swift.

Since being eliminated from the playoffs last year, the father of three has also made it a point to cheer on Travis and the Chiefs, whether with a jersey or shirtless.

“I’ve played in the NFL for a long time.” Jason told PEOPLE in June. “Most of the time I haven’t been able to experience it as a fan. Obviously I will work Monday nights, but that means Sundays and Thursdays are open. So I had some time to potentially take in the actual game day atmosphere from a different perspective now that the game days are behind us.”
