Shasta Lake elections result in council race for 3 seats

play

Three incumbents are looking to keep their seats on the Shasta Lake City Council in Tuesday’s election.

Veteran Councilman Greg Watkins wants to serve a fifth term on the bench. He was first elected in 2008.

Mayor Janice Powell wants a third term and Councilwoman Tena Eisenbeisz wants a second term after winning a special election in March 2023 to fill the seat vacated by Matt Doyle when he moved out of town.

The three incumbents challenging the three incumbents are retired City Clerk Toni Coates, retired California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Ringwelski and businesswoman Dolores Lucero, who is also running for Shasta Board of Education, Area 2 in the November 5 ballot.

Lucero previously served on the Shasta Lake City Council but was recalled in 2012. In 2014, a Shasta County jury found her guilty of presenting false evidence in court documents intended to stop the 2012 recall, a crime she denied.

The candidates told the Record Searchlight in September that issues such as maintaining or replacing utilities, attracting more businesses to the city and public safety are important to them.
