2024: SUNY Canton SBDC holds workshops on workers’ compensation and labor laws on November 5 and 6

North Country employers will have the opportunity to learn about workers’ compensation and New York State Department of Labor services at workshops hosted by the SUNY Canton Small Business Development Center. Titled “Labor Laws and Workers’ Compensation: Is Your Company Compliant?” The workshops will feature Anthony Tomaselli from the Workers’ Compensation Board and Orville Abrahams from the Department of Labor to talk about the services their agencies provide to small businesses and how to best use them.

Two workshop dates are planned and people will have the option to attend in person or via Zoom. The first session will be from 1 to 3 pm on Tuesday, November 5 at the Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main Street in Saranac Lake. The second session will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the St. Lawrence County IDA, 19 Commerce Lane in Canton.

Tomaselli will provide an overview of Workers’ Compensation, disability benefits, and paid family leave. You will also discuss the essentials of coverage for businesses, subcontractors and workers’ compensation, independent contractors versus employees, and how to save money on workers’ compensation premiums and achieve better claims results.

Topics Abrahams will discuss will include Business Jumpstart for startups, New York State Job Board and New York State Talent Bank, human resources consultations, virtual career center, career fairs, personalized recruiting and job offers. free jobs in New York State. Please note that Abrahams will only attend the November 5 session, but his presentation and information will be available to attendees at the November 6 session.
