Consumer Commission orders Ola Electric to refund ₹1.63 lakh for defective electric scooter

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Ranga Reddy, Telangana, ordered Ola Electric to refund Rs 1,63,986 with interest and pay Rs 10,000 in compensation to a customer after his electric scooter was defective. Hyderabad advocate K Sunil Chowdary filed a complaint after facing continuous issues with his Ola S1 Pro since its delivery in June 2022.

Despite an extended warranty and the Ola Care Plan, the scooter’s charger was faulty from the start and unresolved battery issues left it unusable since August 2023.

In response to Chowdary’s October 2023 legal notice, Ola Electric did not attend or respond to the hearings. The commission ruled that Ola’s failure to repair the scooter constituted a deficiency in service. The repayment, along with 9% interest accrued from August 2023, must be paid within 45 days, after which the interest rate will increase to 12% per annum.

Earlier in the day, on Tuesday, November 5, shares of Ola Electric Mobility fell over 7% after the company’s three months. lockout period ended.

On November 1, Ola Electric reported an increase in its vehicle registrationswith 41,605 units registered in October 2024, according to Vahan data. This marks a 74% increase compared to the same period last year. The company claimed that it sold more than 50,000 units during the month, capturing a 30% share of the electric two-wheeler market.
