Previously, dogs were not allowed on two Hastings beaches between April 1 and September 30.

The local council has lifted a ban preventing dogs from being on the beaches of an East Sussex seaside town.

Under previous rules, dogs were not allowed on two Hastings beaches, Stade Beach and Rock-a-Nore Beach, between April 1 and September 30 each year.

Councilor Julia Hilton, leader of Hastings Borough Council (HBC), said: “It was quite simple and made sense to get it up.”

The ban was introduced during the coronavirus pandemic, but was lifted following the council’s Nov. 4 meeting.

Hilton told BBC Radio Sussex: “We have struck a fair balance as there are two dog-free beaches in the city, from the west of the harbor to the pier.

“There is now an area where everyone can share on the two beaches that have now been removed.

“It feels like a good compromise.”

“Intensify law enforcement”

Hilton said the council will ensure signs outlining the rules for each beach are clear and that QR codes will also be used, so people can scan them and get information.

He added: “Next summer we will intensify law enforcement.

“We also expect dog owners to be responsible for their dogs, including cleaning up after them.”

The council said this was the largest response they have had to a consultation.
