Huntsville welcomes new city council member

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAF) – A new era begins for Huntsville City Council. Michelle Watkins was sworn in after defeating a two-term incumbent for the District 1 seat on the council.

Councilwoman Watkins said she is excited to begin her term. He says he wants to work to continue growing infrastructure in North Huntsville.

Watkins was previously a member of the Huntsville City School Board for 8 years. He won a runoff election to defeat former Councilman Devyn Keith.

Watkins is excited to begin her first term representing the people of North Huntsville.

He adds that during his term he wants to get his hands dirty to achieve the changes the community wants to see.

“I’m excited that my community is going to have a representative on the ground, one that is engaged in the community, visible in the community,” Watkins said. “I want to see some economic development in District One and I definitely want the infrastructure to improve.”

Watkins will attend the first city council meeting on Thursday, November 7.
