Saraland shooting subject charged with murdering girlfriend, Orange County Sheriff’s Office says

SARALAND, Alabama (WALA) – According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, a man was shot during a Saraland shooting on October 31, he is now wanted for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

On October 31, Saraland Police Chief JC West told FOX10 News that the US Marshals task force was searching for a subject in Florida accused of murder.

OCSO said they identified the subject as Jorge Quintero, who is now wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera, 29.

Officers said they first responded to Quintero’s Florida home on Oct. 29 after family members reported he was suicidal. When they arrived, Quintero and his girlfriend were missing.

Detectives tracked Quintero to Alabama, where he was found Thursday in the parking lot of a shopping center in Saraland. U.S. Marshals confronted him there, leading to a shootout, leaving Quintero seriously injured and hospitalized.

OCSO told FOX10 News that hours after the shooting, Georgia authorities found an object they suspected might have a body inside.

Over the weekend, it was determined that the body found by Georgia authorities was that of Quintero’s girlfriend, Carrera.

Orange County detectives are in the process of obtaining a first-degree murder warrant for Quintero, who remains in critical condition in the hospital.
