Vietti denies Navarro victory while Guevara takes a surprising third place in Malaysia

Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) emerges victorious at the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, with the Italian taking an incredible victory after looking unstoppable on Sunday. Vietti took the glory by 1.486s, taking the win ahead of Jorge Navarro (OnlyFans American Racing Team), who capped off an incredible weekend as he continued to impress while filling in for the injured Joe Roberts. Navarro took second place, crossing the finish line ahead of Izan Guevara, who took a late podium finish with the CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team, taking advantage of a mistake by teammate Jake Dixon on the final lap.

When the lights went out, Ramírez made an incredible start, launching into P1 on the way to Turn 1. However, Vietti then made a key move, taking the lead into Turn 1, with Onlyfan American’s Marcos Ramírez and Navarro Racing Team chasing them. Ai Ogura (MT Helmet – MSI) also started working hard from the start, moving up to P2 and demoting Ramírez to third.

Ramirez didn’t wait long to respond, beginning to duel with Ogura before making the move at the end of Lap 1. Meanwhile, Vietti dropped the hammer, widening his gap to over a second in an impressive display. Vietti had incredible pace, a pace that pushed the Italian to the limit, making a crucial mistake in Turn 1.

Vietti’s was now diminished, with Ramírez glued to his rear tire as Ogura and Navarro began to duel. Navarro made the move on Lap 7, demoting Ogura to third place as he looked to claim his first podium since 2022. The #9’s charge didn’t stop there, passing Ramirez on Lap 9, and soon set his sights on the leader Vietti.

The battle for the final podium spot continued, with Ogura responding on lap 10 and snatching third position. However, the #79 was stopped short and retired on lap 11 to the disappointment of the MT Helmets – MSI team. This left Ramirez fighting with CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team’s Jake Dixon and Guevara, much to the delight of the Malaysian crowd.

Once Dixon moved into P3, the #96 began to extend its margin to half a second over Ramirez, closing in on the leaders. Meanwhile, Navarro lost ground to Vietti, as the #13 regained his composure and extended his lead to a second.

Further back, Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) continued his recovery from 13th on the grid, reaching ninth position in a remarkable race. Canet soon found his way through Manuel González (Gresini Moto2), taking eighth place and setting his sights on Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in P7.

In the final lap, no one could match Vietti’s relentless pace, allowing the Italian to claim his third win of the season after defeating Navarro in the Malaysian heat. It was an impressive race for the #9, taking second place while Guevara took the final podium spot after Dixon made a vital mistake on the final lap.

Dixon held onto fourth on the final lap after a late error, fending off Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) as the Italian completed the top five on Sunday. Meanwhile, Ramírez finished sixth, unable to stay in the top five in the final laps. The #24 showed incredible pace in the first laps, crossing the finish line to beat Öncü, who maintained a comfortable margin over Canet.

Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) completed the top 10 while González dropped to P11. The Spaniard moved ahead of his teammate Albert Arenas (Gresini Moto2) while Alonso López (Sync SpeedUp), Sergio García (MT Helmets – MSI) and Filip Salac of the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team secured the final points on the day of the race.
