Too Darn Hot’s half-brother De Treville moves from France to Ireland

Too Darn Hot’s older half-brother De Treville has been transferred to Longford House Stud from Montfort Et Preaux.

De Treville is by Oasis Dream and is a son of the great Dar Re Mi, a half-sister to Group 1 middle distance winners Rewilding, Darazari and Diaghilev, from a Vermeille-winning half-sister to Darshaan.

Dar Re Mi is a three-time Group 1 winner on the track and has had an equally successful career in the paddocks.

Her six Dubawi winners are led by Too Darn Hot, who equaled her dam’s feats on the course with three top-level hits and has similarly had a very rewarding second career.

The eight-year-old son of Darley is one of the best young bulls on the block, with Group 1 winners and many more showing that promise in both hemispheres.

Another of De Treville’s half-brothers is Musidora winner So Mi Dar and his full sister Lah Ti Dar, the Group 2 winner of the Middleton Stakes.

De Treville, bred at Watership Down Stud, was Dar Re Mi’s first foal. He was sold to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 850,000gns to top the third and final Book 1 session of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2013, and began training with Andre Fabre for Rashit Shaykhutdinov the following year.

He won a maiden at Chantilly and finished second in the Prix des Chenes at two, and took a Longchamp conditions race and placed in the Prix de Guiche, Prix Paul de Moussac and Prix de la Porte Maillot at three.

With no group racing successes to his name at the end of that classic season, and no doubt with connections eager for him to acquire one so they could make use of that pedigree and become a commercially popular sire, he was sent to John Shirreffs in California and Andreas Wöhler in Germany, but none of the international efforts bore much fruit.

Shaykhutdinov therefore left De Treville himself with a paltry fee when it came time to retire to stud in 2018.

His first crop, conceived at Haras du Thenney with an advertised price of €3,000, was 21, 13 of which were bred by his owner.

De Treville’s second generation of 28 foals was conceived after his move to Haras du Mezeray, and Shaykhutdinov bred all but five.

After four seasons at Mezeray, he was transferred again to Montfort Et Preaux de Sumbe in 2023.

Among his top runners are Gregarina, Group 3 winner of this year’s Athasi Stakes, trained by Joseph O’Brien, Group 3-placed duo Fortune and Le Combat Continue, and listed Diadema.

Marelie has been another standard-bearer, winning three times and selling last year at Arqana’s December breeding stock sale for 150,000 euros.

Recorder also took the route from Montfort Et Preaux to Longford House Stud last year.

Its rate was stipulated as private for 2024. De Tréville’s for 2025 is to be announced.
