A boat carrying six people, including a child, capsized in Redondo Beach on Sunday, killing a man on board, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol received a distress call shortly after 1:00 pm reporting that a boat had capsized and the people on board were in the water clinging to it.

Harbor Patrol officers and lifeguards rushed to the ship and pulled five people, including a child and the ship’s captain, from the water, authorities said. All five were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

But a sixth person, described only as an adult man, was reported missing and later found inside the capsized boat by a rescue diver. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. No information was immediately available on the identity of the victim.

Authorities are investigating.
