New security fencing seen around key DC sites ahead of Election Day

Federal government officials and local police are stepping up security measures in key locations throughout Washington, D.C., and Florida before Tuesday’s elections.

On Sunday, teams were seen working on surrounding the Naval Observatorywhere Vice President Kamala Harris lives. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told Fox 5 that the district has been preparing for the election for months and that increased security measures will be in place until the inauguration in January.

The DC Police Department has released a Traffic notice on social networks. ahead of Harris’ election night party at Howard University, as street closures, no-parking zones and traffic detours will be enforced.

“The United States Secret Service is working closely with our federal, state and local partners in Washington, DC and Palm Beach County, Florida to ensure increased levels of security this Election Day,” reads a statement emailed to Fox News Digital from the US Secret Service.

“In the coming days, fencing and other physical public safety measures will be installed around the Naval Observatory, the White House and the Palm Beach County Convention Center. These improvements do not respond to any specific problem, but are part of a broad public agenda. Security preparations for Tuesday’s elections.”

There are currently no threats to the US capital ahead of the election, The Hill reports, but precautions are being taken in case the election results cause unrest.

“I mean, it’s sad to have to come to that,” DC resident Lucas Argeles told FOX 5 of the fences and boarded-up windows. “I understand why store owners, especially local businesses, would want to do that. Even outside of the election, there have been other cases where they should have addressed it and didn’t. It’s sad. It’s reality. But I hope this Maybe it’s just a precautionary measure, nothing happens, and then yes.

The US Capitol Police did not immediately respond to an inquiry from Fox News Digital about what security measures they are taking.
