The country road, which connects Royton and Sholver via Cop Road, has been described as “shocking” by mother-of-two Stephanie Smith.

He said he took a test walk on the “horrible road” with his son to take him to school and that “vans were flying past us” on the narrow stretches.

Oldham councilor Josh Charters said the road was a “key route” for pupils from Sholver to Royton & Crompton School.

“We cannot continue with the situation we have now, where children walk along a stretch of unpaved road while cars fly up and down, barely avoiding them,” he said.
