Police arrested after running over man

A 42-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital.

A Greater Manchester police officer has been arrested following a collision that left a man in a life-threatening condition. The incident happened on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale, at around 11pm on Friday.

An off-duty officer was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and released on bail, the force confirmed. A GMP spokesperson said: “An investigation continues following a road traffic collision in Rochdale on Friday night.”


“At around 11pm, it is believed that three vehicles were traveling together on Yorkshire Street when a collision occurred with a 42-year-old man who was attempting to cross the road.” Two of the vehicles suspected of being involved are a blue Mercedes C250 and a silver Mini Cooper S Sport.

“An off-duty police officer currently serving with GMP was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.”


The case is being reviewed by the force’s Professional Standards Directorate. Additionally, another man was arrested on the same charges and was also released on bail. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information about the incident.
