REDONDO BEACH, California. – One person died and five others were rescued from an overturned boat off the coast of Redondo Beach on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Authorities received a report shortly before 1:30 pm of an overturned boat off Avenue C, about two miles from shore.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department rescue vessel and the Redondo Harbor Patrol responded to the scene and located the boat. Five people were rescued from the water, but one remains missing, authorities said.

Crews continue to search in and around the ship to locate the missing person.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation.
