Arrest after mother and daughter shot to death by intruder in home

A Pennsylvania man was arrested after police said they were searching for the gunman who shot and killed a mother and daughter during a home invasion in New Jersey.

Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, were found dead in an upstairs bedroom of their Willingboro home early Wednesday, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Junior Edwards, 37, of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with additional charges related to the alleged home invasion and possession of a weapon, prosecutors said in a statement released on Saturday.

Authorities said before the arrest that they believed the crime was not random and that they did not believe other residents of the neighborhood were at risk.

The intruder apparently broke a first-floor window to enter the home, prosecutors said.

“The investigation revealed that entry was made through a first-floor window that Edwards had smashed,” prosecutors said in announcing Edwards’ arrest. “A gun believed to have been used in the homicides was discovered outside the residence.”

Edwards and Catherine Nunez shared an 8-year-old son, prosecutors said, adding, “The child was in the home during the shooting but was not injured.”

Edwards was arrested Friday in Philadelphia, prosecutors said.
