Trump wants to win the presidency to avoid going to prison

play

Growing up in a conservative Catholic family, voting Republican was never an issue. For most of my life, I supported the Republican Party, believing its policies aligned with my views on limited government and personal responsibility. However, the Wisconsin Republican Party, which I once proudly helped lead, has become completely unrecognizable in recent years.

I began my journey with the Wisconsin Republican Party as a tireless campaign volunteer. I quickly rose through the ranks, serving as vice president and eventually chair of the Brown County Republicans from 2013 to 2015. I ran for the Brown County Board of Supervisors As a fiscal conservative, deeply committed to improving my community in Northeast Wisconsin.

But the rise of Donald Trump in 2016 brought out the worst in the Republican Party, with its divisive rhetoric and disregard for democratic norms. Each day of Trump’s presidency seemed to mark a new low, ending his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election and encouraging his supporters to attack the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump’s election denialism and embrace of fringe conspiracy theories are incredibly troubling. He constantly reaches out to QAnon believers and racist neo-Nazis. He has called for the punishment of his political opponents. And he promised to be a dictator from day one, even calling for the abolition of the Constitution.

This behavior is not only wrong, it is downright dangerous.

Republicans continue to downplay Trump’s bad behavior

And while this has always been in Trump’s playbook, Republicans continue to overlook his behavior, which is deeply unbecoming of a president and a threat to our democracy. We’ve seen this from Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, who said he’s willing to do what Mike Pence didn’t do on January 6, even if it means breaking the law. Some people who call themselves Republicans will do anything for Donald Trump, regardless of the harm it may cause to the American people.

In 2024, the contrast between Republicans and Democrats could not be starker. President Joe Biden, recognizing the need to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, voluntarily relinquished power in a decision that showed his patriotism and love for his country. Meanwhile, Trump is desperately trying to cling to power for personal gain, knowing that winning the presidency is the only way to get out of prison.

Harris is the only candidate in this election with a vision for the future: one that stands for democracy, equality, and justice for all. Trump only cares about himself, obsessed with revenge and punishment against his political enemies.

Wisconsinites are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan politics

So let me say this as a lifelong conservative: If you feel uncomfortable voting for Trump, lean into that feeling and don’t vote for him. The stakes have never been higher.

Wisconsin must reject Trump’s dangerous path and elect Harris, who will fight for all Americans, not just those who voted for her.

I have spoken to many Wisconsinites who are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan politics and who believe in a better future. Now, more than ever, we must unite behind candidates who believe in democracy and the rule of law. The choice is clear: Harris offers the leadership we need and will move our country forward. Let’s make sure our voices are heard this November and that democracy is preserved for generations to come.
