Supreme Court denies GOP request to block counting of certain provisional ballots in battleground Pennsylvania

The US Supreme Court on Friday refused to freeze a decision from Pennsylvania’s highest court that required election officials to count provisional votes cast by people whose mail-in ballots were invalid because they lacked required secrecy envelopes.

The judges’ order means election officials in the key battleground state must count provisional ballots submitted on Election Day by voters who returned defective mail-in ballots, either because they did not include secrecy envelopes or because they did not sign or date the outer envelope.

Donald Trump held his final Wisconsin rally of the 2024 campaign on Friday night and returned to Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, home of the Republican convention, to deliver his closing address in the Badger State. In 2016, he narrowly won Wisconsin, but lost the state’s 10 electoral votes to Joe Biden in 2020.

The demonstration was plagued by microphone problems. People in the upper sections at the back of the arena could not hear Trump and he expressed frustration over technical problems.

“I’m furious. I’m working hard with a stupid microphone,” Trump said.

He then made rude gestures towards the microphone stand, complaining that it was too low. He held the microphone for the rest of the rally, but complained several times about how heavy it was. He also threatened not to pay the contractor.

“Do you want to see me hit people backstage?” -Trump asked. “I’m not asking for much. All I’m asking for is a good microphone. And this is the second time today that this has happened.”

He vaguely blamed campaign manager Susie Wiles for the microphone problem.

Both Donald Trump Trump and Kamala Harris campaigned in the Milwaukee area on Friday night, entering the final weekend of the 2024 campaign. Harris didn’t deviate much from her usual speech in West Allis, Michigan, a suburb of Milwaukee. He urged people who have not yet done so to vote.

“No trial, no trial at all, but let’s do it,” Harris said, before running through the list of her campaign promises and the litany of grievances against Trump.

Cardi B, who spoke shortly before Harris, told the crowd that she had no intention of voting this year, but that “Kamala Harris changed her mind.”

He called Trump a “bully” and said, “I can’t stand a bully, but like Kamala, I stand up to him.” Cardi B repeatedly said she was nervous about speaking at the rally. Women, she said, have to work 10 times harder than men “and still, people question us.”
