Driver claiming he ‘just bought’ vehicle accused of having unauthorized plates, Ottawa police say

A driver facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act for having loose license plates told the officer the vehicle was recently purchased, according to Ottawa police.

The Ottawa Police Service says traffic officers using automatic license plate recognition technology in the area of ​​Bank Street and Surrey Avenue stopped a driver with loose plates.

“The driver with loose plates stated that he ‘just purchased’ the vehicle and was simply out to ‘run some errands,'” police said in X.

Police said the purchase date was August 29.

The driver faces charges of having unauthorized plates, failing to change a permit and not having insurance.

On Thursday, police issued several charges while in the area of ​​Carling Avenue and Holy Acres Drive.

The charges included speeding, no insurance and no permit.
