Man convicted of shooting police officer with crossbow

A man has been convicted of grievous bodily harm after admitting shooting a police officer with a crossbow outside the window of his home.

Jason King, 54, of School Close, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty to one count of GBH and affray at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday.

At the same court on September 20, King also pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent in shooting PC Curtis Foster with a crossbow.

Additionally, at the same hearing he pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, namely a crossbow, and possession of a sharp object.

The court heard that at around 18:00 BST on May 10, King was involved in an argument with a neighbour, a man in his 60s, whom he stabbed in the stomach.

When unarmed officers arrived, King shot them with a crossbow from his window.

He then left his house before shooting PC Foster in the leg.

Armed police then arrived on the scene and shot King in the stomach.

King was taken to hospital under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries, but was released 10 days later and arrested and taken into police custody. He was charged on May 22.

King was remanded in custody and will appear at Aylesbury Crown Court for sentencing on January 31, 2025.

Two other charges in the indictment, criminal damage and cultivation of cannabis, will remain on file.

Since the attack, PC Foster has made a full recovery and has returned to duty.

The man in his 60s, who was stabbed in the stomach by King, was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released the same day.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Nick Hind of the Major Crime Unit said: “This was a serious incident and fortunately the victims in this case, including our officer, have made a full recovery.”

The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
