Enterprise man suffers serious burns after grease fire

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – Ian Robinson of Enterprise, Alabama, was heating some oil on the stove when the pan caught fire, severely burning him.

“To know Ian is to love him. He will give you the shirt he is wearing,” said his sister, Jillian Robinson;

Jillian said the frying pan caught fire and although she has not been able to speak to Ian since the accident, the family believes he was trying to take the frying pan outside to prevent the house from catching on fire.

But he never made it to the door, they believe he slipped and that was when the fat burned his body.

Jillian said Ian immediately called for help.

“When we got the call that the fire had started when we got to the house, they had already saved him, intubated him and taken him to Mobile,” he said.

He said Ian has a long road to recovery and will undergo multiple surgeries.

“They’ll have to do graphics on those areas and then on the rest of your body, kind of from the chest all the way down,” he said.

Jillian said Ian lives with his mother full time because he has special needs.

But Jillian said she also has a special bond with Ian.

“We’ve always been very close,” he said. “We are a year apart and we spend a lot of time together. He spends a lot of time with my children, my children love him.”

He said it has been very difficult for the entire family dealing with unexpected medical bills and traveling to Mobile, but he says they are not alone in this.

“It’s overwhelming the amount of love and support we’ve received, not only from family and friends, but from people we don’t even know,” she said.

She told us the accident shows what kind of person Ian is.

“This continues to say a lot about the good heart he has because he risked everything. You know, obviously we’d rather burn the house down than have him be in this situation he’s in now, but he was trying to save my mom’s house,” Jillian said.

Jillian has a message for Ian when he wakes up.

“You’re loved and cared for and we’re happy you’re still here, but you know… you could have let that house burn down, buddy,” he said.

Ian’s family has created a GoFundMe for anyone who wants to help.
