‘Everything cinema should be’: Wicked has been screened and people can’t stop talking about Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo

It can’t be overstated how excited the fans are. Part 1 by Jon M. Chu Wicked hit the movie calendar 2024. He the countdown is on for the musical’s release on November 22, which was the first adapted from the book by Gregory Maguire into a beloved Broadway musical (it won three of the 10 Tony Awards it was nominated for in 2004 and a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album) before now becoming this two-part cinematic event. Some have had the opportunity to screen the film in advance, and early reactions will likely raise fans’ expectations even further.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo lead the cast of Wicked as the witches Galinda (later Glinda) and Elphaba, and their performances have already earned overwhelming approval from OG Glinda Kristin Chenoweth. Critics seem to agree that actresses are simply magical on the big screen, as Clayton Davis of Variety writes on X (Twitter):

Wicked rocks, kids. Galinda is the role Ariana Grande was born to play. Perfectly adapted and truly a hilarious scene-stealing performance. Cynthia Erivo’s heavenly voice allows her to make Elphaba her own. The team of craftsmen assembled by Jon M. Chu put in their signature touches. I’m very excited to see what they do with Part 2.
