Manchester United face delay in appointment of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as negotiations continue – Paper Round

Sporting resists Amorim

Sporting CP hope to maximize the compensation they will receive should Manchester United make a move for Rubén Amorim.

The prestigious manager is believed to be close to a move to Old Trafford, according to The Independent.

The newspaper explains: “Manchester United is in talks with Sporting CP about the hiring of Rubén Amorim, while the Portuguese club refuses to pay compensation to its coach and his coaching staff.

“After sacking Erik ten Hag on Monday, the United hierarchy acted quickly to identify Amorim as the next manager at Old Trafford.

“In an official statement, Sporting notified the Portuguese financial regulator, whose club is listed on the stock exchange, of United’s position as negotiations continue over the €10m (£8.3m) release clause.

“It is understood that the final fee may increase more than that and Sporting will also finalize fees for any departure of backroom staff. “The club has demanded an additional €5 million for its coaching staff and wants an additional fee to sanction Amorim’s immediate release.”

United backroom ready for more changes

The arrival of Rubén Amorim could mean more changes in the backroom of Manchester United.

It is likely that the Portuguese coach will want to bring in his assistants Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido.

The Evening Standard claims: “Amorim insists his future is yet to be decided, but the Portuguese giants have confirmed an official approach from United, which has placed club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge of the first team.

“Ten Hag added Van Nistelrooy to his coaching staff in July, a step back for the former Dutch striker, who had previously managed PSV Eindhoven.

“Rene Hake, who had been in charge of Go Ahead Eagles between 2022 and 2024, also joined the Ten Hag squad following the departures of Steve McClaren, Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy.

“However, further changes could come at Old Trafford in the coming weeks if, as expected, Amorim is appointed.

“Van Nistelrooy hopes his short time at the club ends quickly as Amorim is almost certain to bring in his trusted staff.

“Assistant coaches Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Cándido have followed the current Sporting coach throughout his career and are expected to do so again in the event of his move to Manchester.”

Dortmund ready to sell five

Reports in Germany suggest that Borussia Dortmund are willing to sell five players as they struggle in the league.

Donyell Malen, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Niklas Sule and Marcel Sabitzer will be able to leave.

The Daily Mail writes: “Borussia Dortmund have reportedly put five established stars up for sale following their disappointing start to the season.

“Last season’s Champions League finalists sit seventh in the Bundesliga after losing three of their first eight games, and were knocked out of the German Cup by Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

“Pressure is mounting on new coach Nuri Sahin after he replaced Edin Terzic in the summer, and Dortmund are now ready to revamp their squad.

“According image“Dortmund are willing to let Donyell Malen, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Niklas Sule and Marcel Sabitzer leave the club.”

United considered signing Welbeck

The Athletic reports that Danny Welbeck was tipped to make a return to Manchester United last summer.

Welbeck’s contract was due to expire at Brighton and there were discussions about bringing him back.

The website writes: “Towards the end of last season, as Manchester United were weighing up how to replace the outgoing Martial, Danny Welbeck’s name was discussed internally and people at the club gave serious thought to making him an offer.

“Welbeck was born in Longsight, Manchester, joined (their) academy aged 11 and made 142 first-team appearances before being sold to Arsenal in the summer of 2014. Therefore, his return, a decade later, would have had romantic appeal.

“He was already 33 when his name came up in United’s recruitment discussions, but Welbeck’s contract at Brighton was running out and he was heading for free agency, so he wouldn’t have cost anything in transfer fee. . His great experience was projected as something positive for the locker room. “He is known for living the life of an athlete and is among the best in Brighton in physical tests.”
