Atlanta man arrested after firing multiple shots from Four Seasons hotel building

A seriously wounded gunman was taken into custody after firing multiple shots from a floor of the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday (Oct. 29).

A police officer was also seriously injured while taking down the gunman, Atlanta police told NBC News.

Police said the suspected shooter fired at least once from the hotel’s 33rd floor balcony. He also fired through walls and doors of the 53-story building, but no injuries were reported. At least 15 shots were fired.

The man had three firearms, including a pistol and a long gun. The shooting occurred after the man got into a dispute with a building worker.

Police arrived at the scene around 10 a.m. and officers “tried to get the individual to come to the door to speak” with them, but the alleged shooter “refused to do so.”

He threw a gun from his balcony while the police told him to come down. The apartment was immediately evacuated and officers opened a breach to arrest him.

Videos of the incident shared on social media showed officers standing outside the building as the man shot at them.

Other images showed police carrying the injured man, identified as Jay Stevens Berger, 70, to an ambulance.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launched an investigation into the matter and the building was seized.
