Help for Alison Botha after another life-threatening setback

For the past thirty years in South Africa, the name ‘Alison Botha’ has been a symbol of superhuman courage and determination – the anti-victim, the one who defied death, the one who survived the cruellest of physical attacks without living a life. hatred and revenge.

After Alison survived rape, mutilation and the hands of two Satanists (she was stabbed 37 times in the stomach, disemboweled and her throat slit 17 times), she used the same willpower as when she crawled out of the bushes and into heaven. along the way, to deny her attackers any emotional hold on her, by refusing to be a victim.

She was one of the first women in South Africa to speak openly about rape and the violence she endured.

Now, after building a life of hope and spreading a message of triumph over the worst kind of adversary, 57-year-old Alison Botha is once again fighting for her life.

About a month ago she suffered a brain aneurysm.

Last Thursday, a stent was placed in her brain to drain fluid. The scars and physical damage caused by the brutal attack on her remain a challenge as doctors at a state hospital in Cape Town guide the process of her recovery.

Alison is without medical care and many have called for her to be transferred to a private facility. Financially this is not possible, as Alison is the breadwinner and will not be able to do her work as an author and public speaker for the foreseeable future.

Alison’s legal representative and close friend, Tania Koen, keeps an eye on her treatment, family and personal affairs. She says there are indications the road to recovery will be long and costly. That’s why Tania has set up a fund for Alison so that those who can donate towards her recovery and give her a fighting chance.

At the 2016 release of the film ‘Alison’, Botha said: “If my story and ultimate triumph were shared on screen, it would mean that so many more people would see the agency we all have; and perhaps embrace it. choosing to triumph over life’s hardships.”
