Shudder confirms new sequel to keep Halloween tradition alive

Shudder confirms new sequel to keep Halloween tradition alive

An eighth V/H/S film will be released next year, continuing the tradition of releasing one each of the past four years, just in time for Halloween. In fact, out of seven V/H/S films already available to stream, five of them (the first and then four in a row) were released in October, with only V/H/S 2 And V/H/S: Viral obtaining off-season releases (in July and November respectively). A new one V/H/S film is of course not surprising; the franchise has really come into its own, becoming a mainstay in the direct-to-consumer horror space and receiving pretty good reviews for most of its recent installments.

Bloody Disgusting reported the news. There are no details yet on who might be working on the new film, which is set for release in 2025. Shudder has just been released V/H/S overwith some big names, including Justin Long, Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel.

Flanagan has already made headlines today, announcing that he will be teaming up with Stephen King for a prestigious eight-episode miniseries based on King’s novel Carrie.

The first V/H/S was released in 2012 and the franchise can be seen as two different ‘eras’. The first era got an on-demand release and a short theatrical run, and the second went straight to streaming. While reviews were mediocre, there were some bright spots, including contributions to the anthology from filmmaker Adam Wingard and Radio Silence, the duo behind Ready or not And Scream 6. The V/H/S The premise is that the stories in the anthology are set on haunted, abandoned videocassettes, which can then possess the viewer.

We have one V/H/S film one year, then another two years, but after that V/H/S viralthe franchise took a few years off. Since returning in 2021 with V/H/S 94the franchise has lived off Shudder instead of getting modest theatrical releases. It has become a mainstay of the genre, giving some of the best creators in horror a place to create creative short films. In addition to the six sequels already released, the world of V/H/S has spawned a few spin-offs: Siren And Children versus aliens – as well as the V/H/S: Video horror shorts miniseries on Snapchat’s Snap Originals platform.

The franchise seems like a perfect fit for Shudder, a streaming service dedicated solely to horror. It helps them build relationships not only with beloved and up-and-coming horror names, but also with the V/H/S movies are among the most viewed films in the app. On a bigger streamer the movies might get lost in the shuffle, but on Shudder they’re always a major release with a lot of attention when they drop.
