Just when you thought the latest version of Love is blind couldn’t get more dramatic, the most shocking moment of the season came at the end of episode eight, when Monica Davis revealed that Stephen Richardson had cheated on her by sending sexual messages to another woman. Viewers know it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for 37-year-old sales manager Monica and 34-year-old plumber Stephen. They got along super well in the pods and discussed everything from politics to jobs and family backgrounds. Even though they knew there were many differences in how they grew up and what stage of life they were in now, they fell for each other and Stephen proposed. They also both seemed extremely happy during the post-engagement reveal.

However, during the trip to Mexico, everything started to go downhill. Every time the couple appeared on screen, there seemed to be a problem. Monica was frustrated by Stephen’s lack of effort, angry that he didn’t watch the fireworks with her, and they even had a frank discussion about different financial education. Stephen also became incredibly nervous about the prospect of marrying Monica, which didn’t exactly bode well for their future.

Back in DC, Stephen took Monica to a flower pressing workshop, and she offered to support him financially when he was fired. Enter: the fraud scandal…

What happened in episode eight of Love is blind?

To start, we saw fellow bride Taylor comforting Monica after something unknown happened. It then emerged that Stephen had sent sexually explicit messages to another woman while he was taking a sleep study.

He then entered the room while Taylor was in tears and hugging Monica. Taylor left and the pair sat down to discuss the ordeal. Monica told Stephen the messages were ‘disgusting’, and he said she was ‘right’. She then asked him if he was actually at a sleep clinic as he claimed to be, which he said he was.

Stephen further said, “Monica, I wasn’t pretending. I made a completely stupid mistake when I was drunk during a sleep test with someone who texted me. For her part, Monica claimed he texted the woman that day, which Stephen denied, noting he deleted the messages and insisting it was a “stupid decision” to text the woman.

Stephen added that his actions were based on what happened in their conversation the night before, in which Monica said she didn’t want to have sex with Stephen after he admitted he wasn’t 100 percent sure about his marriage.

Monica was hurt by his comment and told him, “Don’t fucking blame me for being dirty.” Stephen responded by saying that he took full responsibility for what happened and left the show.

In a now iconic moment, Monica asked Stephen to immediately Venmo her the money she gave him, which he eventually sent before apologizing for wasting her time and coming onto the show.

Speak with Entertainment weeklyMonica admitted that she had seen the messages completely by chance. Earlier that day, Taylor and Garrett had texted the group to say they would be delivering cakes later that evening.

That evening, Stephen went to the bathroom and his phone lit up with a text from Garrett about the baked goods. Without thinking about it, Monica unlocked Stephen’s phone to see Garrett’s message. However, underneath Garrett’s text were the other woman’s messages.

“I was going through his text messages and there was one in the top right under Garrett with a girl’s name, and I could see some text, and it was just… yeah,” Monica explained. “It was such a quick decision, but I was like, ‘Push,’ and yeah, I saw a bunch of texts.”

Although Monica doesn’t remember the woman’s name, she *does* remember the context of the messages, claiming that someone said, “No one has ever been able to satisfy my kinks like you do.”

What did Stephen say about the deception?

Since the episodes were released yesterday (October 9), Stephen has spoken out about the show on his social media.

Yesterday, he posted a bunch of behind-the-scenes photos with Monica on his Instagram and wrote the following caption: “You know, this is a show that relies on contextual clues and is meant to not judge a book by its cover . The fans sure like to make fun of A LOT of things. These are all beautiful memories of mine that I would never trade for the world. Both on and off camera. Memories I will share forever with amazing people in an experience I never expected to be a part of.”

He also spoke to People and revealed that he learned a lot from the experience of attending Love is blind: “Not even just because of my mistake, but because of the experiment of it Love is blindit really showed me that if you take away everything else in the world and it’s just you and an individual, it really only takes 10 days to fall in love with someone.

Are Stephen and Monica still together?

At the end of episode eight, Stephen left the apartment and the two did not return for the next episode.

And are they still together? Well, Monica said Entertainment weekly we’d have to wait for the reunion to confirm that.

“When viewers tune in to the reunion, they will get to hear more about what has happened between him and I since then and the current state of our relationship,” she noted.
