MAFS fame went to my husband’s head – he put me through hell for months until the fan’s Valentine’s Day bomb, says Peggy

THEY seemed to be one of the few success stories from last year’s Married At First Sight.

Peggy Rose even thought she and Georges Bert would last Tasha Jay and Paul Liba – the only couple from their series still together.

But as soon as MAFS finished airing, Georges broke things off with Peggy.

Now she claims she later found out he had cheated on her via a message on Valentine’s Day – allegations he denies.

In an exclusive interview, Peggy, 33, opens up about their split and reveals she has “been through hell” in the months since.

It was December, a few weeks after the final episode of MAFS aired, when alarm bells started ringing for Peggy.

She tells us: “Boys love attention, especially if boys haven’t had that attention before. I feel like they’re getting a little big in their heads and saying, ‘I’m in high demand.’

“He even said to me on the show that all his ex-girlfriends desired him sexually. Who says that?

“That’s the kind of person he was.

“Then around Christmas he started acting really strange, and I thought, ‘I have to follow my gut now.'”

But she still stayed with Georges and went with him to Paris for her birthday in early January.

She continues, “Keep in mind that he’s always said he’s very sexual and things like that, that wasn’t true.

“I thought: I have to make a lot of effort here. It doesn’t feel the same. Something has happened. ”

“At the end of January he said he wasn’t happy, but he didn’t want to make our breakup public because he didn’t want to deal with public opinion and attention because he would be heartbroken.

“I was like, ‘Wait a minute, you’re the one who was heartbroken when you broke up with me?’

“‘You don’t want to tell people because you can’t deal with it.’ But I just thought, ‘Yeah, that’s fine.’

Peggy and Georges agreed to release a joint statement informing fans that they had ended their relationship.

But Peggy went ahead and told her followers on Valentine’s Day, when a girl messaged her with photos and video evidence of Georges on two dates in December with another girl.

She says: “When you’re in the public eye, you can’t get away with anything. You can’t cheat on someone and expect to get away with it.

“You can’t talk to another girl without people seeing it.

“I was devastated. I remember bawling my eyes out.

“I feel like I trusted my gut on the show, which is a little difficult because I put Georges above my family, and despite my family’s concerns about Georges, I trusted my gut.

“And to be honest, my family ended up loving Georges, which is hard because they trusted him too.

“So I feel like I let my family down a little bit, but at the end of the day it was my decision, my mistakes, and I made my bed so I got to be in it.”

‘Normal’ new human

Peggy now thinks that Georges’ breakup is the “best thing that ever happened” as she is dating a new man, who she met on a night out, and she loves that he is not a celebrity.

“I’m quite a private person,” she adds. ‘Yes, I put my life on TV, but I didn’t do it for the fame. I didn’t do it to let people know everything about my life.

“I did it out of love, because I want love. My brother is happily married. My mom and dad have a great relationship.

“Despite my father being kind of the way he is, my mother tolerates it, and you really think that’s what I want, and that’s why I did it, because I wanted that for myself, and not for anyone else.

‘And I think that’s the difficult part.

‘But no, this person is not in the public eye. He’s just a normal guy, he’s not a millionaire.”

Another sign for Peggy’s new guy is that he wants a family, something Georges never wanted.

She continues: “I want someone who also wants children. Georges didn’t want children, and that’s hard for me, because I do want a family, but in every relationship you have to make a compromise.

‘And I was willing to stay with Georges, even though he said he didn’t want children, and children are very important to me. So yeah, I’m seeing him right now.

“I just hope he’s the one.”

Hard to trust men

Peggy refuses to make it official with this man – who is not in the public eye – until he asks her to be his girlfriend.

She says: “I feel like that’s gone these days. It’s like if you go on a few dates, they just assume it’s exclusive, and yet they can probably still go out and cheat and do whatever they want.

“You have to be faithful, be loyal.

“Until there is a name for our relationship, whatever it is, I’m going to keep my options open and just trust my gut because I think that’s all you can do.”

Peggy also admits that she finds it difficult to trust people, especially after Georges allegedly cheated on her.

She explains: “I didn’t think Georges would do what he did, and that surprised me.

“It made me think, ‘If I said publicly that I’m going to trust this person, and I go out of my way, put my life on the line for him, and he did that, how can I trust anyone else? that’s not in the public eye?’”

With this new man not used to having his life smeared all over social media, Peggy admits she’s having a hard time with him knowing she was on MAFS – but she tries not to let it get to her.

She says, “I’m obviously married to a stranger, and I understand that must be upsetting. But the thing is, when you’re with someone, you have to take them as they are, and the past is the past. “I don’t ask him how many girls he’s slept with or anything like that. I don’t ask intrusive questions because I take him at face value.

“And I mean, so far so good, but my trust in men has just diminished, like it’s so hard.

‘But I have to trust someone, otherwise I’ll be single for the rest of my life. It will be just me and my dog.

“I’m hopeful about this relationship and I’m just trying to trust him.”

Wedding on the card?

Peggy is even thinking about getting married again.

“I honestly thought my wedding to Georges would be the only wedding,” she says. “It was always Georges who said to me: ‘No, we are going to do well again.’

“And I thought, ‘No, that’s not necessary. Let’s just have kids,’ and then I was like, ‘No, you know what? If he wants to get married again, we will.”

‘And when we broke up, of course I thought: that’s it, I’m done, I’m never getting married again. I’m done.

“But I would love to get married again. I have not lost hope of getting married again.”

However, it won’t be the lavish fairytale wedding Peggy had with Georges on MAFS.

She concludes, “At my age, if I know the person is right, I don’t think I want to stick around for another two years and plan the wedding.

‘I wouldn’t mind if it was just a close wedding with our loved ones and then we focused on the house and the kids. But I want to make sure we are financially settled as a couple before I have any babies.”

The Sun contacted Georges for comment, who denied being unfaithful to Peggy.

He said: “I never cheated on her, it was her actions that pushed me away – the actions we all saw on the show; gaslighting, manipulation, constantly letting me down.

“During our time together I received messages that she was buying Christmas presents for her ex-boyfriend and hand-delivering them, so Peggy needs to stop playing that card. Especially if I didn’t cheat.”

He added: “It’s boring now. This isn’t true, Peggy, stop talking about me.
