Former OCDC detention officer arrested for theft facing additional charges

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A former Oklahoma County Detention Center officer who was previously arrested in October for allegedly stealing money from inmates has been rearrested on new charges.

The OCDC says Euitt Sharp was re-arrested Wednesday afternoon by members of their Criminal Investigations Division on charges of grand larceny and second-degree forgery.

Sharp, who was an OCDC employee from 2014 until his resignation earlier this month, is accused of stealing money from inmates five times. In one such case, $2,000 was reportedly taken from an inmate.

Investigators say Sharp would steal the money and forge a document so the computer system would show the resident didn’t come in with the money.

“Following the arrest of the former detention officer earlier this month, our Criminal Investigations Division continued to investigate the case and file new charges with the District Attorney’s Office,” said Brandi Garner, CEO of the Oklahoma County Detention Center. “We want to be clear: no one is above the law and we strive to maintain the trust of the public and those in our care. Every action has consequences, and we will continue to ensure that anyone who violates that trust is held fully accountable.”

Sharp posted $10,000 bail and was released from jail.
