Manly, Iowa Man sentenced to federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm

MANLY, Iowa (KTTC) – Cory More, 33, of Manly, Iowa, was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison after pleading guilty in June to possession of a firearm by a drug user.

According to court documents, More’s vehicle ran out of gas in Clear Lake on Oct. 23, 2023, forcing him to pull over to the side of the road.

When an officer approached More, he noticed two marijuana baggies containing “a green leafy substance” on the ground between More and the officer. A gun was in a holster on More’s hip, clearly visible to the officer.

On October 27, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at More’s home in Manly and seized marijuana, scales, other drug paraphernalia and an additional 16 firearms and ammunition.

More was sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year term of supervised release.

Clear Lake Police Chief Michael Colby praised Clear Lake officers for their work on the case.

“It showed that our local Clear Lake Officers are working hard to protect not only the city of Clear Lake, but the Northern Iowa region. Mixing guns and drugs is a powder keg waiting to explode and will negatively impact our communities. I was happy that we were able to successfully complete this research. I would also like to thank the North Central Iowa Drug Task Force, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNE, Cerro Gordo and Worth County Sheriff’s Offices and the Manly Police Department for their assistance in this case.
