The Senate confirmed, among other things, a new commissioner of Health and Human Services

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – The Maine Senate was back in Augusta today for confirmation votes on the nominees proposed by Governor Mills. Nominees for several positions, including district court judges, the UMaine System Board of Trustees and Maine State Fire Marshal, were all approved.

The only nominee to draw any dissent was Sara Gagné-Holmes, the governor’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

She was ultimately confirmed as commissioner by a vote of 24 to 8.

After the vote, Gagné-Holmes addressed the senators who voted against.

“I respect their opinion. I appreciate their concern. They don’t know me, they don’t have the trust in me that people who have worked with me over the years have, and I look forward to working with them and changing their minds about what I bring to this department can do. Gagné-Holmes replied.

Gagné-Holmes served as deputy commissioner of the department for the past five years.

Governor Mills released a statement thanking the Senate for the bipartisan vote confirming Gagné-Holmes. Department. Today’s vote is proof of that.”
