Harassment on the pretext of police verification must stop, says Rashid

In his first meeting with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, North Kashmir MP and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) President Engineer Rashid on Saturday raised the issue of sacked government officials, police verifications and prisoners in and out of Jammu jails and Kashmir are accommodated.

According to a party statement, Rashid met the LG at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on Saturday and briefed him about the “demands of the people of North Kashmir”. He also submitted a memorandum regarding the burning issues of the North Kashmir Assembly segments.

Rashid urged the LG to re-examine cases of dismissed government employees and requested LG’s intervention to release all prisoners lodged in and outside the jails of Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has so far dismissed over 50 employees under Article 311 of the Constitution, which deals with ‘the dismissal, expulsion or downgrade of persons serving in civilian positions within the Union or a state’.

According to AIP, the Lok Sabha MP also informed the LG about the alleged difficulties and intimidation faced by people during police verifications. He said this harassment on the pretext of police verification must stop.

The statement said Rashid questioned the LG: “If the Central government could talk to the people of Ladakh and North East, why can’t it talk to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to resolve their legitimate issues and give them to grant political rights?”

While urging the LG to ensure that human rights, self-respect and dignity of common people are preserved at all costs, Rasheed also sought expeditious disposal of pending passport cases and urged the LG to ensure to ensure that young people received passports without involving them in unnecessary problems. .

The party’s statement claimed that the LG assured Rashid that he would definitely and seriously look into the issues brought to his attention by the concerned MP.
