Angelina County Commissioners Approve Interior Demolition of Old Tax Office

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) – Since the Angelina County Commissioners Court and Tax Office moved into its new building in downtown Lufkin, the old Angelina County Tax Office sits empty, with county elections right above.

“We changed the name to Angelina County Election Administration and we are looking to implement it,” says Angelina County Judge Keith Wright.

At Tuesday morning’s commissioners court meeting, commissioners approved demonstrating the interior of the old tax office and seeking bids for new flooring, painting and minor carpentry work.

“Take out all the cabinets and countertops and remove them to create one large space,” Judge Wright said.

Angelina County Elections Administrator Terri Jordan says the additional space will help early voting return to its location, as a lack of space prevented it from being an option.

“Our office will be more involved in early voting with people here than us running to different places,” Jordan said.

Jordan says they will move their offices downstairs to the old tax office, and more than half of the new space will be used for early voting.

“We’re excited to be able to get a bigger space, spread out a little bit more and have more work area to hold elections and prepare for the elections,” Jordan said.

Angelina County Judge Keith Wright says the timeline for the demonstration and bids will depend on labor availability.
