Mother of accused teen speaks out about Larry Thorn’s murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -The Shelby County District Attorney plans to try a teenager as an adult for the murder of a Memphis-Shelby County school secretary.

He A 16-year-old boy was charged with the death of 27-year-old Larry Thorn.

The teen’s mother, Sherry Falircloth, insists her son did not murder his assigned school mentor, Larry Thorn, 27, on January 10, 2023.

Falircloth said that a day before the murder his son went to the hotel where his family lived and said Mr. Thorn wanted to take him to a show at the Orpheum.

“I called Mr. Larry and he said yes, he would come get my son and take him away, but he is handling some business right now. He told me he was with his brother and as soon as he was done with his brother or whoever, the other party was in the vehicle with him,” Sherry Falircloth said.

He remembers that hours went by without his son being picked up and the next call he received was at 6:45 p.m.

“I heard that man’s voice ask Mr. Thorn for some money. Mr. Thorne was like “Spanking him” and it was like ‘Boy, get out of here.’ I have no money. I don’t have money, get out of my vehicle.’ The next thing I knew, the man was asking for something else,” Falircloth said. “I couldn’t understand what he was asking, but he was asking for something else. But at that moment, Mr. Thorn took a deep breath and paused for a moment. two or three seconds and said: Let me call you back!

Falircloth said Thorn never called back, but the next day he found out she was missing and didn’t show up for work on Jan. 10.

MPD and Falircloth said the teen was already in jail when he was charged with second-degree murder.

“The real killer must turn himself in because he is a child who does not deserve this,” Falircloth said.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office plans to transfer that teen to adult court.

We reached out to Thorn’s family today but have not received a response.

MSCS issued a statement at the time of his death saying he was the “first face to greet our students and staff” at A Maceo Walker High School.
