Maryville man arrested in Georgia after child sexual abuse investigation

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Blount County Sheriff’s Office said a Maryville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation involving juveniles.

Sheriff James Lee Berrong said an investigation involving Shane Rewis, 51, of Maryville, began in May after two juveniles reported he contacted them with inappropriate comments and photographs.

The months-long investigation eventually led investigators to a third female victim, Berrong said.

As a result, Rewis was indicted by a Blount County grand jury earlier this month on the following charges:

  • Two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child
  • Trafficking for commercial sexual purposes
  • Three counts of exploitation of a minor by electronic means
  • Sexual exploitation of a minor

After a search, Berrong said Rewis was arrested without incident early Tuesday morning at a home in Seminole County, Georgia.

Rewis is being held in the Seminole County Jail pending extradition to Tennessee on his charges, Berrong said.
