Man shot in the chest at North Platte home is in stable condition, police say

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – The 36-year-old man who was shot at a North Platte home on Saturday is now in stable condition, according to police.

The victim is being treated at a Kearney hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to North Platte police, officers were called to a home near East 11th and North Walnut streets after a caller reported a driver crashed their vehicle into a car parked in the area. The driver was left slumped over the steering wheel.

The victim was transported to Great Plains Health by ambulance with life-threatening injuries and then transported to Kearney for a higher level of care.

The suspect, Daveante Booker, 23, of Evansville, Indiana, is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County Court on Tuesday. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

During the investigation, police discovered that Booker’s girlfriend was related to one of the residents who lived at the home and arrived in North Platte a few weeks ago, along with Booker.

Police said an argument between Booker, his girlfriend and the victim at the home escalated into a physical altercation between Booker and the victim.

Booker pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot the victim in the chest, according to police.

Booker and his girlfriend were later detained in the Dollar General parking lot after fleeing the home. Her 18-month-old daughter was taken into protective custody.
