Suspect in fatal stabbing in Wildwood sentenced to prison

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ – DaJohn Taylor was sentenced Monday to 19 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Kaiden Braithwaite and the assault of Braithwaite’s cousin, Mikal Braithwaite, in an incident that occurred in Wildwood, New Jersey, last year . Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced the sentencing, handed down by Judge Bernard E. DeLury, Jr.

Taylor, who was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault, must serve at least 85% of his sentence — about 16 years — before he is eligible for parole, due to the provisions of the state’s No Early Release Act (NERA) .

The charges against Taylor stemmed from a violent altercation on June 11, 2023, in which he fatally stabbed Kaiden Braithwaite. The attack also left Mikal Braithwaite with serious injuries, including permanent nerve damage.

“This sentence holds DaJohn Taylor accountable for the senseless violence that led to the tragic death of Kaiden Braithwaite and the lifelong injuries suffered by Mikal Braithwaite,” said Prosecutor Sutherland, who expressed hope that the sentencing would bring some measure of justice and closure. for the Braithwaite family.

The case attracted significant community attention and highlights ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime in the region.
