Iran warns Israel of ‘painful response’ to BRICS summit

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned Israel that his country will react harshly if Israel makes a mistake.

Pezeshkian made the comment on Wednesday while attending a BRICS summit in the central Russian city of Kazan.

Referring to the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, where Israel is intensifying its offensive, Pezeshkian said people are witnessing war and violence is deepening.

He added that the continuation of the situation “will undoubtedly put the world at risk of spreading war and insecurity.”

Pezeshkian met on the sidelines of the summit with participating leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Pezeshkian warned Israel of its willingness to take countermeasures in retaliation for the October 1 Iranian missile attacks.

He promised a “painful response” if Israel makes a mistake.

The joint statement adopted at the summit includes words denouncing Israeli attacks in the Middle East and “the loss of civilian lives and immense damage to civilian infrastructure resulting from attacks by Israel in residential areas in Lebanon” are condemned.

Iran has called on countries that keep their distance from the West to support its position at a time when Tehran is increasingly at odds with the United States and others who continue to provide military support to Israel.
