Michelle O’Neill to answer questions about recent Sinn Féin scandals

Sinn Féin has faced a number of controversies in recent weeks.

Questions for the party first arose last month when two Sinn Féin press officers resigned after it emerged they had provided references for former colleague and convicted child sex offender Michael McMonagle.

O’Neill had apologized for the hurt and offense caused by those who provided the references, adding that she was “stunned and shocked”.

However, some Members of Assembly (MLAs) said the Chief Minister still had questions on the issue.

There have also been calls for O’Neill to provide clarity in light of the questions surrounding Mr Ó Donnghaile.

On Monday, a Sinn Féin staffer who worked in the assembly resigned after admitting his involvement in an incident involving damage to a portrait of former mayor and DUP colleague Lord Wallace Browne in Belfast City Hall.

The employee was “immediately suspended” and police were notified, the party said.

Several senior Sinn Féin members were among those featured in photos posted online of the town hall event, including Deputy Minister Aisling Reilly.

Kingston said there were questions for Reilly about what she knew about the incident, and was disappointed she would not be attending the committee.

Former Sinn Féin Laois TD (MP) Brian Stanley, who resigned from the party in October, criticized the investigation process after a complaint was made against him.

McDonald confirmed the internal process had been suspended and information had been passed to gardaí.
