Paul George calls out reporters for inappropriate behavior in the locker room

Paul George isn’t a fan of how much access journalists get into the locker rooms after NBA games.

The 76ers’ new recruit brought it up on his podcast in support of NFL players, who have been calling on reporters to no longer be given immediate access to locker rooms shortly after games.

George remembered a time in Washington where a reporter was super perverted.

“There was an incident, even way back when I was in the NBA, where guys were talking about this situation,” PG said on Podcast P with Paul George. “There was a reporter in Washington who would look at guys’ flesh while they were on the phone or while they were changing clothes.”

He continued, “The game might be over and ten minutes later all the reporters come in.” Do you understand what I mean? Maybe take a moment to process what just happened, sort out your thoughts and such.

‘We have towels on, we are naked. We just got out of the shower, and there are these reporters in there, and they’re not staring at a wall. They look at us, and that is our safe space.

‘You can’t even talk, even if it’s an injury, or so stories leak. I’m trying to talk to a teammate like, ‘Yo, should’ve done this better or should’ve done that better,’ and now a story is blown out of proportion by someone wrestling with their ears.

The NFLPA recently released a statement calling on the league to change its media policies and suggested things like conducting interviews outside of locker rooms.

“For the past three years, the NFLPA has attempted to work with the NFL and Pro Football Writers of America to get media interviews out of locker rooms. However, there is little willingness to work together on a new solution,” the statement said. “Players feel that locker room interviews violate their privacy and are uncomfortable. This is not about restricting access to the media, but about respecting the privacy and dignity of players.”
