(Society)Fire Commission decides to ‘get to the truth’ about civilian casualties during the Korean War.

The Truth and Reconciliation Committee has decided to investigate the truth about three cases of civilian casualties in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, before and after the Korean War.

During the 89th Commission held yesterday (22nd), the Commission decided to find out the truth about 41 civilians killed by the military and police in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, before and after the Korean War.

The four victims turned out to be children under the age of 10 who, together with their parents, had been affected by the evacuation. Four victims of teenagers aged 11 to 19 were also counted.

It was also decided to find out the truth about the case in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, where 22 civilians were massively victimized by the police on the grounds that they were suspected of having served during the People’s Army occupation.

In addition, it was decided to conduct a fact-finding investigation into the case in which 41 civilians in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, were shot or injured by the military, police and right-wing youth groups.

The committee recommended an official apology from state and local governments in all three cases and action to repair the damage.
