Wolves News: Will the matches be friendlier to Gary O’Neil?

O’Neil’s side played against six of last season’s top seven players in the Premier League in their first eight games.

That would be a difficult feat for any team, let alone one that again sold key players in the summer without actually replacing them as they struggled with profit and sustainability rules.

Despite the difficulties presented by the series of matches, they might have expected more points after taking 11 points from the corresponding matches last season, although repeat wins against new Chelsea and defending champions Manchester City would have been a big ask.

A fairer assessment of where Wolves’ season is headed could come in the next nine games before Christmas.

In this series of matches, which includes matches against all three promoted teams, they will not play any of the top eight of the 2023/24 season.

If the side can change its shape during this period, they will not be able to breathe easily for too long.

As at the start of the season, they have once again been dealt a heavy hand by the fixture list, having to compete against seven of last season’s top eight in eight matches.

But if O’Neil can survive this run of games, it will come down to a mixed run until the end of the season to determine whether their campaign ends in celebration or dejection.
