Go 4 It: Meet the women helping others live without fear

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, an average of 24 people per minute in the United States are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner. That is more than twelve million women and men in one year.

That is why PORT is so important. It offers programs for victims of domestic violence and sexual violence. The nonprofit organization provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programs to nearly 30,000 people each year, serving people in Metro Detroit.

General Motors overcomes US sales decline and China losses to post $3 billion profit in Q3

U.S. sales are down and a once reliably profitable joint venture in China is losing money, but General Motors still managed to post a $3 billion profit on Tuesday in the third quarter, just under a year ago.

The Detroit automaker reported sales of $48.8 billion from July through September, up 10% from last year, helped by average U.S. car sales prices that held steady at more than $49,000 last quarter.
