Liverpool: Thieves use cutlery to steal lead from school roof

Thieves who used cutlery to steal lead from a school roof left a trail of £10,000 worth of destruction.

They used the crockery to smash slate so they could take the lead on the roof of Arnot St Mary’s Primary School in Walton, Liverpool.

The city council has now agreed to foot the bill for the damage, which was done just before the start of the term.

Deputy head teacher Dan Paton said it was ‘frustrating’ that money had to be spent on fixing ‘mindless vandalism’ rather than doing things that would benefit the children.
