Woman to be convicted of tampering with evidence in accidental shooting of 2-year-old Lansing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WILX) – A third person linked to the death of a 2-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in Lansing will find out how much time she will spend behind bars on Monday.

Gina Schieberl has pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence.

In October 2023, 2-year-old King Muhammad got hold of Avis Coward’s gun and shot himself in the face while sitting in a car with his mother at a Sunco gas station on Dunkel Road.

After the shooting, Coward called Schieberl and another man and asked them to get rid of the gun. Schieberl also admitted that he removed the car in which the toddler was shot to prevent police from examining it for evidence. Police later found the car, but it had been set on fire and was badly damaged.

Schieberl is expected to be sentenced Monday at 10 a.m.

Mohammed’s mother, Emma Huver, has been sentenced to five years in prison

Avis Coward was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
