NASCAR legend and ‘Alabama Gang’ member Bobby Allison dies

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – NASCAR legend and ‘Alabama Gang’ member Bobby Allison has died at the age of 86, NASCAR announced Thursday.

Allison, who lived in Hueytown for most of his racing career, raced at the circuit from 1961 to 1988 and was always one of the favorite drivers at the track.

Allison’s family and NASCAR released the following statements:

It is with deep sadness that the family of Bobby Allison announces his passing at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. His health had declined in recent years, but he continued to contribute to the sport he loved.

Bobby was the fans’ best driver. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his fans and would stop to sign autographs and chat with them wherever he went. He was a dedicated family man and friend, and a devout Catholic.

No arrangements have been announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Bobby’s local church (St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mooresville, North Carolina), your local Catholic church or diocese, the Hall of Fame Preservation Society International Motorsports or the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
