Australian Olympic champion Libby Trickett has announced she is expecting her fifth child with her husband Luke.

The swimmer, 39, took to Instagram on Friday to share the joyful news of her baby with her 76,000 followers and confirmed that she is now around four months pregnant.

She shared a photo of her ultrasound and admitted she and Luke were “excited” and “terrified” as they revealed they were ready to welcome another child.

The couple already share four children: daughters Poppy, eight, Edwina, five, and Brontë, three, and son Alfred, 18 months.

They have yet to find out the gender of their fifth child and Libby shared her excitement about their family growing in her heartwarming post.

She gushed: ‘Luke and I are absolutely thrilled (and a little terrified) to announce that we will be welcoming Baby Trickett 5.0 to the world in April!

“Poppy is already excited to have another baby, Eddie thinks it’s going to be a little boy and Brontë thinks it’s going to be a girl and Alfie keeps pointing at my belly and saying ‘baby’ but he really has no idea what’s in store for him.”

Libby was quickly inundated with congratulatory messages from her famous friends and followers as they shared their joy with the happy couple.

Libby’s baby news comes just 18 months after she and Luke welcomed their fourth child together in May last year.

The Olympic gold medalist took to Instagram at the time to share the happy news in a heartwarming post, posting photos of her cradling her newborn son in the hospital.

“He’s here,” the proud mom shared in her post. ‘The last piece of our family puzzle (this time for real!).

‘Alfred Sunny Trickett arrived at 9.09 on the morning of May 17. Every birth I have had has been extraordinary and this one was no different.

“Peaceful, full of joy and laughter, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to meet our baby.”

The champion swimmer, who is already a mother of three daughters, jokes: “Alfie has no idea what’s in store for him with his three older sisters and the girls are absolutely in love.”

He said Alfie was brought into the world via an elective caesarean section, weighing 3.5kg and measuring 52cm long.

Libby previously opened up about her history of postpartum depression after welcoming her third child, Brontë, in 2020.

“I think any time you have such a change in life, it can always be quite discouraging,” he said.

“Especially for me, knowing that I’ve had a history of postpartum depression, and it’s certainly something we’re very aware of.”

When Poppy was just four months old, Libby said the extreme lack of sleep caused her mental health to worsen.

The lack of sleep made him angry and it got to the point where he was yelling at his daughter.

“It’s almost like I had a mental break, and I had a moment where I completely lost control with Poppy, I was yelling at her,” he said.

Libby, once the fastest swimmer in the world, was forced to abandon her pool career at just 28 years old due to injury.

‘The progression of extreme sleep deprivation that she put everyone through just accelerated my mental health and mental illness to the point where I was scared.

“I couldn’t imagine being an eight-month-old baby and being yelled at.”

Libby then decided she needed help and used her memoir, Beneath the Surface, to help other women understand the warning signs of this condition.

Once the fastest swimmer in the world, Libby was forced to give up her pool career at the age of 28 due to injury.

She became famous for taking home the gold medal at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, and was the world record holder in the 100 meter short course freestyle.
