Driver accused of fatal wrong-way crash faces vehicular manslaughter charges

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) – A driver accused in a deadly wrong-way crash in Murfreesboro Thursday night now faces vehicular manslaughter charges, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Lora Allison Tenpenny, 23, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter along with felony reckless endangerment and DUI after a Murfreesboro man was killed in a wrong-way crash on South Church Street.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 pm on S. Church Street and closed all lanes of the highway for several hours.

Police said Tenpenny was driving a Jeep southbound in the northbound lane on S. Church Street when he crashed head-on into a BMW. Tenpenny’s jeep was turned over on its side.

The driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old Murfreesboro man, died in the crash. Tenpenny and his 22-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, MPD said.

MPD said an off-duty Williamson County deputy witnessed the crash and called 911, and off-duty Murfreesboro Fire Department safety officer and paramedic captain Karl Daigle also stopped after seeing the remains of the accident.

The pair pulled the driver of the BMW from his vehicle and began CPR. Emergency personnel took over once they arrived on scene, MPD said.

Tenpenny has been released from the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center after posting $72,000 bail.

“She has a hearing in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on Nov. 19,” MPD said.
