Min. Vijitha Herath confirms that Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will remain Prime Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Minister Vijitha Herath said that Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will be appointed Prime Minister in the new government to be formed after the upcoming general elections.

Minister Herath said a new cabinet of 25 ministers will be formed, marking the beginning of a new phase for the government after the elections.

Speaking to reporters, he emphasized that the government will prioritize equality in enforcing the Presidents Entitlements Act of 1982, despite recent social media posts suggesting former presidents are forming organizations to protect their privileges.

He expressed concern over the excessive number of police officers assigned to retired civil servants, noting that the public cannot bear such burdens. “Some have requested as many as 163 officers, while others have around 90. We will definitely change this situation,” he said.

Minister Vijitha Herath said a committee has been appointed to address the issue.
