Razorbacks fans shouldn’t pay much attention to the receiver outside of the Texas team

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – If things stay this way for Arkansas’ game against Texas next weekend, nothing is shaping up to be the best. The Longhorns won’t shake off the rust from a bye week by playing a trap game against Florida this week.

We are in the information blackout that accompanies the weeks of rest these days. The only time we’ll hear from Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman this week was Wednesday on the rather tame SEC conference call. Apparently they don’t want distractions to affect preparations for Texas, which is already making headlines.

This time it’s not particularly positive from the Hogs’ point of view. Even after it became known this week, the Longhorns had “parted ways” with wide receiver Johntay Cook II. That’s another way of saying he was kicked off the team for one reason or another.

Usually there would be an air of hope around something like that. Not this time. Razorback fans are well aware that they just allowed an SEC-record five touchdowns and 259 receiving yards to Ole Miss’ No. 2 receiver last weekend in a 63-31 loss. The game really wasn’t that close.

Arkansas coaches are either struggling to find solutions or trying to convince themselves that the game was just one of those things. Waiting for the other team to have off days probably isn’t the best plan in the world.

Especially against Texas, which is in a battle for a College Football Playoff spot. After a big loss to Georgia, flopping against the Razorbacks wouldn’t be good if it made it to those last dozen teams.
