US election 2024 live: Harris tells supporters ‘not to despair’ as she vows to help Trump with transfer of power

We are approaching the finish line now, with polls closed in more than 40 states (and the District of Columbia) of 50.

The projections will come quickly in the next hour, but some states will take longer to count than others.

SnowfallIn particular, it could be days before it reports its final results. Elections there are being conducted primarily by mail, and counting will continue through Saturday for ballots that arrived late but were postmarked by Election Day. The state also does not release voting results until the last voter in line casts their vote.

In the meantime, we have a clearer picture of how Americans have voted abortion related questions in 10 states across the country.

In addition to abortion, be careful with some keys House of Representatives elections in Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska and New York that could reshape who has control of the lower house of Congress. Currently, the House is narrowly controlled by Republicans, and all 435 seats are up for re-election.

A map of the United States shows the number of electoral college votes for the president in each state and is colored according to the candidate who won them. The threshold to win is 270. As of 02:56 GMT (21:56 EST), Democrat Kamala Harris had obtained 81 electoral votes in 8 states. Republican Donald Trump has obtained 162 electoral votes in 15 states. There are 295 votes left to declare.
